Talaia suffered from pain, so she asked a family member for some meds. Unbeknownst to Talaia or her family member, the pill she was given was fake oxycodone laced with fentanyl. Talaia was in the hospital for multiple days, connected to breathing machines and other devices. Her brain activity stopped. On November 28, 2022, her father had to take Talaia off life support.
